Re: 2012 trip
You are invited to join us on a river cruise in Russia in September, 2012. The enclosed brochure will give you the details, including the daily itinerary, dates and costs. To further describe the details of the trip, particularly the significant savings you will enjoy with our group, we invite you to a meeting on Sunday, February 13 at 3:00 at the church to discuss the details of the trip.
There are a couple of things to point out before you read the brochure for details, itinerary and cost. Viking River Cruises is offering a 2-for-1 deal on both the cruise and airfare. That is indeed good news. However, as with our last cruise, a deposit of $600 will be needed by March 1, 2011 to reserve your cabin, and the entire trip must be paid by May 1, 2011 in order to take advantage of the promotion. This locks in the air price, including any future fuel surcharges, and provides us a direct, non-stop flight.
The prices listed here are approximately $600 less than the brochure price if you were to purchase this trip by yourself. And while river cruises are more expensive than land trips, remember that the cost covers your transportation to/from the airport/church on a deluxe coach, all your meals, all taxes (airline, port taxes, etc), 11 guided tours on daily excursions off the ship, unpacking only once aboard a newly-refurbished ship (with hotel-style beds!!) and a great time with good friends. Such a deal!
We realize that it is difficult to think of paying the whole amount 16 months before traveling but the cost of your trip would be covered by your insurance (approximately $300-400) if you cannot go for legitimate reasons (medical, death, etc).
You are not under obligation to pay for the trip now. You can make your $600 deposit and pay the rest in December, but the promotion ends May 1, so your trip will be increased by at least $800 per person for the additional airline cost and if you pay after December, the 2-for-1 cruise promotion ends.
We have reserved a group of cabins in categories A, B, C, and D but these are not guaranteed until your deposit is received. Please indicate on the reservation form which category you would like; these are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
We would like to get some idea of your interest as soon as possible. We have already had a lot of positive response to this trip, including people outside of the church, and we want to give you the first opportunity to reserve a place. Please email Gary of your interest in the next two weeks; there is no obligation. We can only hold the cabins for a few months without the deposit but if we know of your interest, we can be sure to have reserved enough for everyone.
