WHO WE ARE

Since 1858 New England Congregational Church has served greater Aurora as a “caring church for thinking people.”  We take pride in our Pilgrim roots and our affiliation with the United Church of Christ.  Our church is governed by the members of the congregation, yet we embrace the education resources of the denomination and accept its mission as our own.

Over the years we have remained theologically liberal which has informed our commitment to issues of justice.  We were at the center of the establishment of Hesed House, providing house, food and clothing for those in need.  We were instrumental in the formation of the Fox Valley Hospice, and for several years provided the only support group in Kane County for those living with AIDS.  Out of concern for those in other countries living in oppression, we have sponsored families from Laos, Bosnia and Afghanistan, befriending them and assisting in their resettlement.

We are proud of our Preschool which was organized in 1948, and our Boy Scout Troop #3, continuously chartered since 1910 and one of the oldest, continuously, chartered troops in the nation.  We also sponsor a support group for gay/lesbian/bisexual high school youth.

We are committed to the arts and education, and offer an extravagant welcome to all, openly affirming those in alternate lifestyles, people of all ages and beliefs.

We do not profess to have all the answers to life’s questions, but we believe that by joining together in worship, prayer and social gatherings we can walk with one another through the difficult times and better discern God’s ways in our lives.
