October 10:  Wicked (2024)

Elphaba and Glinda’s destinies collide in Oz’s magical world. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande shine in this powerful tale of friendship, identity and courage (with part two being released in November 2025). Presenter: Marsha Carter

November 14:  The African Queen (1951)

In war-torn Africa, a spirited missionary and a gruff boat captain join forces to survive aboard the African Queen. Katharine Hepburn and Oscar winner Humphrey Bogart star. Presenter: Diane Ellis

December 12: Lion (2016)

Lost as a child in India, Saroo embarks on a journey of memory and technology to find home. Based on a true story, with Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman.                                            Presenter: Maureen McKane

January 9: Matchstick Men (2003) 

A con artist with OCD faces his biggest hustle yet: fatherhood. Nicolas Cage and Sam Rockwell star in this sharp tale of deception, redemption and unexpected bonds. Presenter: Chuck Adams

February 20:  Glory (1989)

This joint presentation with NECC’s Students of the Beloved Community committee will feature a Soul Food Tasting at 6:30 p.m. followed by the movie, both in Friendship Hall. In “Glory, amid the Civil War, the first all-Black volunteer company fights prejudice and battle alike. Oscar winner Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman and Matthew Broderick lead this tribute to courage, sacrifice and brotherhood. Ellen Bonewitz will introduce the movie and lead a short discussion afterward. Please come hungry and ready to eat a delicious meal, and beverages will be provided. The tasting and the film presentation are free of charge and no sign up is necessary. Presenter: Ellen Bonewitz

March 13: Perfect Days (2023)

In Tokyo, Hirayama finds quiet joy in routine, music and trees while content in his job as a toilet cleaner. This meditation on the beauty of life was an Oscar nominee for Best International Feature. Presenter: Brian Kleemann

April 10: A Man for All Seasons (1966)

Sir Thomas More stands firm against King Henry VIII’s demands, defending conscience over compromise. Paul Scofield’s Oscar-winning performance anchors this tale of integrity, power and principle. Presenter: Elaine Ross
